Congratulations to the Athens Economic Development Corporation on the receipt of a Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) for $114,500. This grant will be used to establish a revolving loan fund (RLF) for the purpose of supporting and expanding economic and employment opportunities.

Texas was found to have the top competitive electric marketplace in the United States and Canada, and it was the only place that was ranked “excellent” for both residential and commercial customers, according to a study released today by an industry consulting group.
Congratulations to Temple and Killeen in being ranked in the top spot in the Milken Institutes 2010 “Best-Performing Cities” index. The area moved up from second place last year. The Bell County region was recognized for its economic performance in the midst of a severe national recession. Some key elements for the area included Fort Hood base consolidations, the area’s location along the I-35 trade corridor with Mexico, a more stable housing market compared to other regions and continued growth experienced locally by Temple College and Texas A&M University.
